Female Inspector, Two Others Held For Extortion In Imo

The Imo State Police Command has arrested a female traffic warden and two civil guard corps following a now viral video where the trio were recorded allegedly harassing and extorting a motorist for driving without a driver’s license in Owerri on October 8, 2026.

Imo State Police spokesman, Henry Okoye in a statement on Friday named the operative as Inspector Chinewe Ejiogu, attached to the Shell Camp divisional police headquarters while the two  civil guard corps personnel are Mr Kelechi Nzediagwu and Mr Onyedikachi Chibuike.

Okoye said they had been arrested and were currently detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for their actions.

In the statement, the command condemned the action which was described as unacceptable and contrary to the standards of discipline and integrity expected of law enforcement personnel.

He said the state commissioner of police had directed the command’s complaint response unit to investigate the incident.

According to the police, no traffic violation justifies extortion, harassment, or abuse of office, adding that all personnel have been warned to discharge their duties in accordance with the law and treat members of the public with respect.

The command urged the affected motorist to report to the unit and provide relevant information to assist the investigation, saying appropriate disciplinary action would follow upon its conclusion
