The Enugu State Police Command has ordered a thorough investigation into an alleged shooting by unidentified armed hoodlums outside the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) secretariat in Enugu.
The incident occurred on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at about 2:30 p.m, leaving a man repairing a vehicle parked along the road with a suspected gunshot injury and damaging the windscreens of five parked vehicles.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed this in a statement, adding that police operatives promptly responded to a distress report, restored normalcy and took the injured man to a hospital.
According to Ndukwe, the victim is receiving treatment and is in stable condition.
He said the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, had directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to identify and arrest those responsible for the shooting.
In a separate incident on the same day, joint police and military operatives dispersed suspected NDC members who had gathered in a disorderly manner at the entrance to Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, at about 11:30 a.m.
Ndukwe said preliminary findings indicated that airport authorities had restricted the party members from entering the airport in large numbers to receive their governorship candidate.
He added that a misunderstanding reportedly broke out among the party members and escalated into a fight, prompting the intervention of security operatives.
The Commissioner of Police reiterated the need for political parties and their members to shun violence and conduct their activities in accordance with the law and existing peace accords.
Giwa also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to providing a level playing field for all political parties and urged them to notify the police of planned activities to enable adequate security arrangements.
