The Kebbi State Police Command has warned that anyone who blocks the Kebbi-Sokoto Federal Highway will be arrested and prosecuted following a recent attack by suspected Lakurawa bandits.
The command said any blockade on the highway would attract arrest and legal action, with suspects prosecuted in court.
The warning was contained in a statement issued to journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Friday evening by the command’s spokesperson, SP Bashir Usman.
The statement quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Muhammed Hadejia, as urging residents to act responsibly, respect the rights of other citizens and refrain from conduct that disrupts the free movement of people and goods on roads and highways.
Hadejia also urged parents and guardians to caution their children and wards against participating in unlawful gatherings, particularly along roadsides, without legitimate reasons.
“Anyone caught doing so will be arrested and prosecuted in court,” the police commissioner said.
Suspected Lakurawa bandits recently attacked a construction site along the Sokoto-Badagry Road, killing four workers, according to the report.
