Kano Approves Promotion Of 18,984 SUBEB Workers, Releases N235m

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has approved the promotion of 18,984 teaching and non-teaching staff of the State Universal Basic Education Board for January and July 2026.

According to a statement issued by the governor’s Spokesperson Sanusi Bature, the approval will require the release of N235,116,339.09 to implement the promotions across the 44 Local Government Education Authorities in the state.

It quoted the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Yusuf Kabir, to have requested the release of the funds in a letter dated September 2, 2026, stating that the affected workers were eligible staff whose promotions for the two cycles had been processed, alongside the necessary salary adjustment calculations.

The Board said the timely implementation of the promotions was necessary to boost staff morale, support career development and strengthen service delivery in the basic education sector.

It added that SUBEB had approximately 60,000 teaching and non-teaching personnel serving across the state’s 44 LGEAs, making it one of the largest public institutions in Kano.

According to the Board, the present administration inherited outstanding promotion backlogs involving arrears spanning seven years and another backlog of one-and-a-half years.

It said the governor had previously approved and facilitated the implementation of the outstanding promotions, describing the intervention as a major boost to staff morale and confidence in the public service.

SUBEB said it had completed the necessary processes for the 2026 promotion cycles, including staff eligibility verification and salary adjustment computations.

The governor’s approval was subsequently ratified by the State Executive Council, paving the way for the release of the funds and implementation of the promotions.
