FCT Police Arrest NSCDC Officer For Firing Shots At Kubwa Market

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a Deputy Superintendent  with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for firing gunshots into the air at a market in Kubwa, Abuja.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, following an incident reported to the police on October 25, 2026.

Adeh said the Kubwa Police Division received a distress call at about 1:50 p.m. reporting that an armed man was shooting into the air at the market.

“Upon receipt of the report, police operatives attached to Kubwa Division were promptly deployed to the scene. Following concerted efforts, the suspect was successfully disarmed and arrested,” she said.

The suspect was identified as Onoja Samuel, a Deputy Superintendent with the NSCDC.

According to Adeh, Samuel went to the market with a pistol after receiving reports that some traders had assaulted his wife. He allegedly fired several shots into the air during a subsequent altercation.

The police spokesperson said a CZ pistol and 17 rounds of live 9mm ammunition were recovered from him.

“The suspect is currently in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,” she added.

Reacting to the incident, the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged personnel of sister security agencies to exercise restraint and inform the divisional police headquarters responsible for their areas of operation before undertaking authorised operations.

He said the measure would promote proper coordination among security agencies and prevent avoidable friction.

The Command also urged residents to report emergencies through its dedicated hotlines.
