Collapse Of 3 Towers Disrupt Power Supply To Keffi, Akwanga—TCN

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has said three transmission towers collapsed along the Karu-Keffi-Akwanga 132kV transmission line corridor in Nasarawa State, disrupting power supply to parts of Keffi and Akwanga.

The company said the incident occurred at about 4:06 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, during rainy and windy conditions.

According to TCN, the 132kV Karu-Keffi-Akwanga Single Circuit Transmission Line tripped on overcurrent relay protection. Investigations subsequently revealed that Towers T78, T79 and T80 had collapsed.

TCN said it promptly isolated the line to ensure safety.

“Consequently, all 33kV outgoing feeders at the Keffi and Akwanga Transmission Substations are presently unavailable,” the company said in a statement signed by its management on Thursday.

It added that no load could be nominated on the affected feeders until further notice.

The company said its engineers were at the site assessing the extent of the damage and determining the requirements for the commencement of restoration work.

TCN apologised for the inconvenience caused to electricity customers supplied by the affected substations and said it was working to complete the necessary repairs as quickly as possible.

It said further updates would be provided as restoration efforts progressed.
