2027: North Owes Tinubu Another Mandate, Says Kaduna APC

The Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said Northern Nigerians owe President Bola Tinubu another mandate in 2027, citing his past support for Northern politicians seeking the presidency.

The party’s Publicity Secretary, Mohamed Sani Haruna, stated this on Monday during a media briefing in Kaduna ahead of the APC presidential campaign flag-off scheduled for October 24, 2026.

Haruna said Tinubu had demonstrated his commitment to Northern Nigeria by supporting several Northern presidential aspirants at different times, arguing that the region should reciprocate the gesture by supporting his re-election.

He cited Tinubu’s political alliances with former presidential aspirants, including Atiku Abubakar and Nuhu Ribadu, as well as his support for former President Muhammadu Buhari ahead of the 2015 presidential election.

According to him, Tinubu played a significant role in building the political alliance that brought Buhari to power after three unsuccessful attempts at the presidency.

Haruna also commended Tinubu for the appointment of Senator Abdulazeez Yari as Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, describing it as a demonstration of the president’s recognition of Northern political interests.

He said the choice of Kaduna as the venue for the campaign flag-off further demonstrated Tinubu’s regard for the region, describing the state as a historic political centre with strong ties across Northern Nigeria.

“There’s no better solidarity or show of love for Northern Nigeria than the choice of Kaduna as the city to host the flag-off of the presidential campaign,” he said.

The APC spokesman said Kaduna was prepared to receive the president and other party leaders, adding that the party would mobilise hundreds of thousands of supporters for the event.

He also expressed confidence that the state would deliver 2 million votes for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, attributing the target to Governor Uba Sani’s leadership and what he described as his inclusive approach to governance.

Haruna claimed that the APC currently controlled elective positions across the state’s 23 local government areas, 255 wards, 16 federal constituencies and three senatorial districts.

Asked why the APC believed the outcome would be different in 2027, Haruna attributed the party’s losses in 2023 to public dissatisfaction with the administration of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

However, he said Sani’s administration had adopted a more inclusive approach, which he claimed had improved the APC’s acceptance among residents from different religious and ethnic backgrounds.

Haruna expressed confidence that the party would secure victory for Tinubu and its other candidates in 2027.
