Hon. Uche Ben Odunzeh, the NDC authentic senatorial candidate for Imo West Senatorial District, has urged candidates of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Imo State to strengthen their grassroots presence rather than depend solely on the popularity and influence of Mr Peter Obi.
Odunzeh made the call while addressing a team of his supporters, stressing the importance of direct engagement with voters in building a strong political structure ahead of the forthcoming elections.
He noted that despite being involved in a court case challenging his nomination, his campaign posters were already visible across different communities within his senatorial district.
According to him, candidates should not wait for the popularity of prominent political figures to translate automatically into electoral support but must take deliberate steps to connect with voters at the grassroots.
He urged NDC ticket holders across Imo State to embark on door-to-door campaigns, engage residents in their communities, communicate their programmes and build meaningful relationships with the electorate.
Odunzeh maintained that grassroots mobilisation remains essential for any political party seeking to establish a strong presence and compete effectively in what he described as a challenging political environment.
He further encouraged party candidates to demonstrate commitment, visibility and personal engagement with the people, insisting that building a formidable political structure requires hard work beyond relying on the influence of national figures.
“Candidates must take the message of the party directly to the people. Door-to-door campaigns and consistent grassroots engagement are essential to building the structures needed for effective political participation,” he said in essence.
He called on NDC candidates to intensify their outreach efforts and work towards strengthening the party’s presence across Imo State.
