Katsina United produced an impressive attacking display to defeat former champions Enyimba 4-2 in a six-goal encounter in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The hosts took control early at the start of the match, capitalising on defensive errors to establish a commanding two-goal lead before half-time.
Enyimba’s troubles began in the sixth minute when E. Onyema turned the ball into his own net to hand Katsina United the lead.
The home side doubled their advantage six minutes later through S. Mubarak, leaving Enyimba with a mountain to climb heading into the break.
Katsina United maintained their momentum after the restart, with L. Dadong extending their lead to 3-0 in the 59th minute.
However, Enyimba mounted a spirited response, scoring twice in an attempt to rescue a result from the encounter.
C. Michael reduced the deficit in the 67th minute before C. Egbe struck eight minutes later to make it 3-2, setting up a tense finish.
But Katsina United extinguished hopes of an Enyimba comeback in the 80th minute, restoring their two-goal cushion to seal a 4-2 victory.
The result saw Katsina United emerge winners of an entertaining contest, while Enyimba were left to rue their poor start and defensive lapses despite their second-half fightback.
